Basic First-Aid (40 Hours)
Our five day course in basic first aid is an internationally based curriculum covering a variety of topics including:
- Anatomy & Physiology

- Patient History
- Scene Size-Up
- Rescuer Safety
- Patient Assessment
- Airway Management
- CPR
- Bleeding and Shock
- Management of Musculoskeletal Injuries
- Head & Spine Injuries
- Chest Injuries
- Soft Tissue Injuries
- Burn Management
- Near-Drowning
- Poisoning & Overdoses
- Animal Bites
- Patient Lifting, Moving & Extrication
This training encorporates teamwork and instills leadership and confidence within the students.
Basic Water Rescue Awareness (3 Days)
This three-day training curriculum is a hands-on course developed to provide the necessary tools and skills to achieve an understanding of basic shore-based swift water rescue.
The course is broken down into classroom lectures and teaching stations which include the following topics:
- Hydraulics
- River Dynamics
- Self-Rescue
- Victim Packaging & Removal
- Shallow Water Crossing
- Tension Diagonal Rope Placements
- Throw-Bag Operations
- Foot Entrapment
- Personal Protective Equipment
Teaching progresses in stages from the classroom to outdoor activities, to the swimming pool and finally the swift water site. The students will learn basic fundamentals that will increase their confidence in the water, promote teamwork and emphasize safety.
Students who successfully complete all aspects of the training will receive a certificate of completion.
Advanced Water Rescue Training (4 Days)
GMR’s Advanced Water Rescue Course is designed for public safety agencies already engaging in swift water rescue operations who have completed our 3 day Basic Water Rescue Awareness Course. The advanced training is taught only by our most highly skilled water rescue technicians in a smaller group.
The course covers an array of topics including:
- Water Rescue Refresher
- Throw Bags in Dynamic Water (Throwing & Receiving)
- Shallow Water Crossing
- Eddy Hopping
- Swimming in Current
- Contact Swims
- Tethered Swimmer
- Z-Line Drags
- Transportation of Victims Across River
**Due to the inherent dangers associated with this training, each student will be evaluated based on their swimming ability & physical fitness prior to entry into the class. GMR staff reserves full right of refusal of entrance into this course based on these criteria.**
Rope Rescue (3 Days)
Our Rope Rescue Training is a three-day training course based on CMC Rescue standards (the leader in rope rescue training in the United States). All of our instructors are certified to these standards and are some of the best technicians in the industry.
The three day rope training consists of classroom and practical, hands-on skills training covering the following topics:
