ARMENIAN CERT PROJECT RECAP

TRAINING IN STEPANAKERT FOCUS ON DISASTER RESPONSE

(6 JUL 2017)  Riding the success of our recent 2017 Citizens Emergency Response (CERT) Academy in the Dominican Republic, GMR doubled down and taught the same curriculum overseas in Stepanakert, Armenia to another resounding success.  Three days of first aid training, firefighting exposure, search techniques and structural collapse mitigation were the topics of focus.

Thirty students participated in the training held in a government building in the eastern Armenian city.  The skills taught will be put to use by the young students, eager to pass on their education to others.

The republic of Artsakh where Stepanakert lies, has seen much conflict in years past.  It is our hope that hostilities will cease permanently between them and their neighboring country.  Until then, it is our desire that this course somehow prepares the people of Eastern Armenia to better care for themselves in the event of disaster or conflict.

Thank you to Ara Melikjanyan for coordinating this project.  Thanks also to our instructors, Toby Hays, Paul Lauritzon and Nick Fiorante for their dedication and sacrifices, making this possible.  Cheers to our Armenian interpreters and students for a successful course.  Congrats to all!
